Fronted by Aussie- Hungarian Romani singer Sarah Bedak and her Serbian-born Rroma drummer/guitarist husband Nenad Radic, the quintet mixes traditional gypsy melodies with original contemporary compositions. Not adverse to the occasional cover tune, they even present unique gypsy-fied versions of songs by The Rolling Stones, Elvis and The Kinks!

First formed in 2008, Lolo Lovina released their debut album ‘Baro Love’ in ’09, and performed at festivals across Australia, including The National Folk Festival, the Brian Eno-curated Luminous Festival at Sydney’s Opera House, and the Bellingen Global Carnival. The group’s 2015 album ‘Rroma Sapiens’ was highly praised by reviewers, and their new release ‘Rrom Antics’ is receiving similar praise. 

Sarah received an Australia Council arts grant in 2010 to travel and study gypsy music in Serbia, Hungary and France, and in 2012 she met Nenad, who had just arrived in Australia after living in Berlin for 40 years. The band have just toured Europe for the first time, with dates in Germany, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzagovina and Spain.

Launching the holiday season, Lolo Lovina now bring their gypsy magic to Bellingen for a fun-filled masked party, with prizes being awarded for the best outfits. 

Special guests will be Le Hot Club de Bellingen, a local one-off collaboration playing the gypsy-inspired manouche style made popular by Romani guitarist Django Reinhardt in the 1930s/40s.
