At the Dorrigo Showground, cattle, horses, dogs and goats will fill the judging rings and across the grounds there will be everything from boutique beers to art, sculpture and a full-on farmer’s challenge.
Show attendees can enjoy tree felling, show jumping, the animal nursery and all the attractions of side shows.
There is fierce competition in the dairy and beef sections, especially for jersey, friesian and angus cattle.
Show Society president, Sally Duckett, points show visitors to a more serious aspect of the two days.
“This year our Society has launched a gentle challenge to urban families and those living away from the land,” Sally said.
Come to the Dorrigo Show and get in touch with the real country.
Horses, cattle, the land, where your food actually comes from; axemen, riding boots, laid back lifestyle, pure mountain air.
This, in part, is what life on the Plateau is about and for many people in 2016, Australian traditions, indeed the reality of country life, are no long that familiar.
“Part of our focus this year is to provide entertainment that is informative, especially for young people. Educating and hopefully enthusing them about what is happening in Australia away from the heavily urbanised centres.” reveals Sally.
With art displays and showbags stalls, children visiting the show this year can collect ‘treasure maps’ and follow directions around the Dorrigo Showground to collect prizes.
