Fast-forward to 2016, and the Old Post Office Building on Pennsylvania Avenue, which stands at 93.5 metres, midway between the White House and the Capitol, is the newest Trump hotel to open.
Retaining the Trump name, the Trump International Hotel will be officially opened on Thursday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The luxury hotel, which is the 1890s-era Old Post Office Building, now houses 263 guestrooms and suites that feature wool carpet, wood furnishings and 14- to 16-foot-high ceilings.
Its standout rooms include the 4,000-square-foot Presidential Suite which features the original fireplaces and wooden doors, and a 6,300-square-foot suite or 'Trump Townhouse' which boasts of a 600-square-foot living room.
The hotel offers a spa named after Trump's daughter, Spa by Ivanka Trump, which offers personal trainers and spa attendants.
