The protest, organised by environment groups, called on Premier Baird to abandon plans to abolish the Native Vegetation Act and other environmental laws.
The Greens are calling it ‘Baird’s Blueprint for Biodiversity Destruction’.
“Premier Mike Baird’s land clearing laws will kill wildlife and destroy the environment. He is about to introduce a blueprint for environmental destruction all across New South Wales,” Dr Faruqi said.
“We know that if the laws pass pretty much everything across the state is fair game, with up to two million hectares of koala habitat at risk under just one of the eight codes proposed.
“Premier Baird must stop buckling under pressure to his junior partners, the anti-environment Nationals. He must chop up his land clearing laws, not our trees.
“The Baird Government is driving our iconic koalas to extinction and our precious environment to destruction. If these laws pass, it will be the biggest backwards move of environmental protection in NSW.
“We can turn back the tide of attacks on the environment and we will continue to strive towards strengthening, not destroying environmental protections.”
