Mental Health Month is recognised and celebrated throughout the month of October in NSW.
Ultimately, mental health is about being cognitively, emotionally and socially healthy – the way we think, feel and develop relationships - and not merely the absence or presence of a mental health condition. Having positive social connections, good personal relationships and being part of a community are vital to maintaining good mental health and to help contribute to people's recovery, should they become unwell.
The aim of the campaign is to promote the importance of early intervention practices for positive mental health and well being and reduce the stigma associated with mental health.
This year’s theme for Mental Health Month is Learn and Grow. During the month of October, communities around NSW will be holding events focusing on this theme and we encourage everyone to find out what’s happening near them and get involved.
Bellingen Shire Council are the creators of the Well being Street Stall which will be held on October 1. The street stall will be held outside the IGA Supermarket, on Hyde Street Bellingen and will raise awareness for mental health issues within the local community.

Speaking with local resident Vicki about her struggles with mental health, she wants to help clear up any stigma and decrease discrimination around mental health. My story is mild compared to others but you have everything to gain and nothing to lose by seeking help. “5 years ago I lost everything and spiralled out of control until I was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder.” Vicki recalls. Seeking help is paramount in moving towards recovery.
