The group has provided Jake with a specially modified tricycle that will enable to gain some independence whilst helping him to “re-learn” coordination aspects, that were sadly denied him after the incident.
Jake was “king hit” in Dorrigo after a patron from the Commercial Hotel, hit him on the chin causing Jake to fall and hit his head on the concrete road gutter outside the hotel. Jake had just driven to Dorrigo, from the coast, to pick up his girlfriend. Jake has since required 24/7 care and support for ongoing medical and carer expenses. His family has had to make massive adjustments and are continually seeking ways to provide for Jake.
DUBBUG heard about his case and proudly presented Jake and his family with the bike. They noted an article on a Facebook page where Jake went to the Toormina velodrome with his support crew to try cycling earlier this year. Thanks to DUBBUG members, Jake can now continue cycling and gain some feeling of independence as well as the physical benefits that cycling provides.
Further, DUBBUG are running a three day cycle “Tour De Coffs” from Saturday, October 22 to Monday 24 that starts in Coffs Harbour and proceeds to Coutts Crossing, Dundurrabin, Dorrigo, Bellingen and onto Coffs Harbour.
All monies raised from this cycle will be donated for the ongoing care and support of Jake. If you are interested in joining the cycle as a rider/volunteer or simply to make a donation please go to www.dubbug.org.au
It is hoped that Jake will be able to “lead out” the cycle, thanks to the kind generosity of the members of DUBBUG
