North Coast TAFE apprentice chef Dominic Elmaloglou was nominated by his teachers and was recognised for his achievements at NSW Parliament House on Monday.

“It’s a privilege, it’s nice to be honoured for all of my hard work and efforts” Dominic said.

“The teachers I have around me at TAFE are great – they are really supportive, open to any questions and are extremely knowledgeable of the industry”.

Dominic currently works at the Bellingen Green Grocer and lauds the opportunity to live and work in the same town.

“I moved up from Sydney to the North Coast with my family and am really lucky to live and work in Bellingen,” he said.

“I had the idea that I would have to travel into Coffs (for work), but to get a job in town is awesome”.

NSW Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events Stuart Ayres congratulated students on their academic achievements and acknowledged the importance of professional training to the tourism industry.

“These Awards celebrate the achievements of our State’s best students who represent the future of tourism and hospitality,” Mr Ayres said.

“Our tourism industry is all about delivering outstanding experiences every day – making sure visitors enjoy their stay, tell others and return year after year”.

North Coast TAFE commercial cookery teacher Ian Holdaway also sings the praises of Dominic and acknowledges his achievements in such a short time of study.

“Dominic is only in his third semester with us and has been outstanding in his achievements…this award is a true testament to that,” Mr Holdaway said.

Dominic hopes to start his own business after his studies at North Coast TAFE.

“After I finish, I hope to open up my own little establishment here in Bellingen,” he said.
