And thus, the rural group have welcomed the announcement by Deputy Premier Troy Grant that a reengineered NSW Police Force will include a Deputy Commissioner for Regional NSW Field Operations and a greater focus on the needs of rural NSW.
“The clear message from farmers is that changes are required to police resourcing so that farmers are better protected,” NSW Farmers’ president Derek Schoen said,
“This announcement by the Deputy Premier recognises that the unique challenges associated with fighting rural crime deserve specialist focus, starting at the top.”
“The NSW Farmers is also calling for a mandatory minimum fine of $5500 to deal with rural trespass.
“It’s time the penalties for trespass were a real deterrent, not an afterthought.”
“A farm is also a home. Farmers need to be protected ... and the penalties being handed down lack teeth.”
