All of the favourite characters – Mike Teevee, Violet Beauregarde, Veruca Salt and, of course, Charlie Bucket – are vying for the show’s grand prize, Wilma Wonka’s chocolate factory, under the intense scrutiny of the television cameras. There are twists and turns along the way with the an evil grandmother, a couple of hapless editors, two mischievous oompa loompas and even God himself, all attempting to manipulate the show’s final outcome. Throw in two over the top hosts and you have a production full of action, laughs, a dash of social justice and the odd moment of poignancy. The play is showing at 6 o clock Wednesday, June 22 at Memorial Hall. Entry is by gold coin donation. Come and support the Shire’s aspiring young actors. All welcome.
