The small not-for-profit club is part of the AFL North Coast Junior Competition and draws Auskick, U11 and U13 players from throughout the region who pull on the boots every Sunday at the picturesque Burdett Park.
Club president Budge Bihary said the volunteer-run club was proof that hard work and dedication pay off.
“Despite being in rugby heartland, we’re passionate about growing the love of AFL in our community so it’s fantastic that this season we will have the addition of a scoreboard,” Budge said.
Local Holden dealer Geoff King Holden’s, Geoff King said he was delighted to be present the league with this grant and supporting the local community.
“Sport has such a positive impact on the local community and providing support to young players encourages continued participation. By providing a scoreboard we’re hoping to play a part in ensuring these kids continue to play the game they love for years to come,” Geoff said.
The club represents the Bellingen and Nambucca Valley shires and is home to just 50 juniors aged 5-14 years. The amount of volunteers has now increased from four with now 11 parents who dedicate their time to the club every week.
In 2014 Holden committed $5 million over 10 years to its Home Ground Advantage program, which provides grants to community-based sporting clubs across Australia. Twice a year, $250,000 of grants are awarded, with one major grant going to a worthy project of up to $100,000 in value.
