The Bowerhouse Community Reuse Centre is open 8:30am to 4:00pm every Friday, Saturday and Sunday and has a great selection of quality recycled and second hand items including books, CDs, furniture, household items and clothing for sale. The shop also accepts unwanted but reusable items during the opening hours of the Raleigh Waste Management Centre (open every day except Tuesdays).
“Upcycling, also known as creative reuse, is the process of turning waste materials and old, used or unwanted products into new materials or items of better use or quality”, explained Bellingen Shire Mayor, Cr Mark Troy.
MIDWASTE, in partnership with Council, is running a Creative Upcycling mosaic workshop with local artist Fiona Macaulay, to teach participants how to get creative with old stuff and turn them into something useful and beautiful.
Participants will learn, over two Saturday afternoons, both indoor and outdoor mosaic methods, complete a quality take home project and come away with the ability to create mosaic projects independently at home. There will be displays of Upcycling mosaic examples and the opportunity to share ideas as well as gaining knowledge and experience on basic design theory and some technical considerations.
The Creative Upcycling workshop is at The Bowerhouse Community Reuse Centre, Short Cut Road, Raleigh on Saturday 18 & 25 June, 12-4pm and Costs $60 (Concession $30). One registration is for both workshops via www.midwaste.org.au/upcycling or calling 0422 151 402.
