The waste collection kits will posted to more than 3700 homes in the Bellingen LGA, and contain a magnetised calendar showing which bins go out on alternating weeks, information about the twice yearly Council kerbside Bulky Goods collections, including collection dates for the next financial year, as well as information regarding Bellingen Shire Council’s new Clothing Collection Service and three clothing collection bags.
In an innovative move, Bellingen Shire Council is introducing a trial Clothing Collection Service across the Bellingen LGA. Residents will be able to place clean, unwanted clothing in specially designed bags, then seal and place the bag in their yellow (recycling) bin for collection. Once received by Coffs Coast Waste Services, the clothing will be distributed to charities in the Bellingen Shire.
The new Clothing Collection Service will be a win-win for our community, as it is a simple way for residents to dispose of unwanted clothing, while providing a free source of product to local charities who will sell the items in their stores, or donate to those in need. Residents who require more than 3 clothing collection bags can collect more bags free of charge from Raleigh, Bellingen or Dorrigo Waste Management Facilities, or from the Council Administration Centre located in Hyde Street, Bellingen.
Also included in the kit is a community Bulky Goods Survey which should be returned by June 30.
Lia Purves, Education Officer at Coffs Coast Waste Services, said that the survey will help guide Bellingen Shire’s kerbside Bulky Goods collections in to the future.
“Finding out what our residents think is the first step in designing programs to improve waste disposal practices on the Coffs Coast” she said.
The waste information kits should reach Bellingen Shire mailboxes no later than the end of June 2016. If you don’t receive your kit, or require further information, contact the Coffs Coast Waste Services Hotline on 1800 265 495 or email admin@coffscoastwaste.com.au
