These very welcome funds enable Cancer Council to provide its FREE Community Transport to treatment service ensuring Dorrigo cancer patients and their families can get access to treatment at the Mid North Coast Cancer Institute (MNCCI).
“This important service provided free of charge thanks to our dedicated team of volunteers eases some of the emotional and financial burdens on patients and their carers,” stated Brenna Smith, Community Engagement Manager. “Our door to door service makes cancer patient’s journeys a little more comfortable at a challenging time when most patients are primarily concerned with getting through their treatment. Knowing that they don’t have to worry about how they will get to treatment when no other options are available is such a relief.”
Transport to Treatment is available to all eligible cancer patients. If you are unsure about your eligibility for our service call Brenna on 6659 8408.
Another crucial Cancer Council service available to the Dorrigo community is our free Financial Planning Service providing financial advice to eligible local cancer patients.
“Research has revealed significant gaps in access to financial planning services by cancer patients due to cost, stress and illness. This places many patients at risk of accumulating significant debt and falling behind on expenses,” stated Brenna.
“We are supported by a number of financial planning practices in Coffs Harbour who help patients with cancer-related financial issues such as getting early access to superannuation or insurance benefits, dealing with mortgage hardship and advising on Centrelink, debt management and budgeting.
These financial planners offer their services free of charge to reduce the stress and financial difficulties which can mount for many patients, especially when they lose pay from lost work during treatment,” Brenna said.
