Dixie and her daughter Rachel Erlandson died in an accident on the Pacific Highway near Valla Beach Rd on Friday. It is the fifth accident to occur near this intersection in a matter of months.

“Roads and Maritime Services is supporting NSW Police as investigations continue into Friday’s incident,” a Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said.

“Pacific Highway General Manager Bob Higgins met with Local Member Melinda Pavey to inspect the existing road today to consider further safety improvements while the Nambucca Heads to Urunga Pacific Highway upgrade is being built.

“Possible safety measures include using additional electronic message signs to remind motorists to drive to the conditions and changes to speed limits.

“The upgraded highway between Nambucca Heads and Urunga will aim to improve road safety as it will be duplicated and will separate traffic travelling in opposite directions with wide medians and safety barriers.”
