The Berger 'Paint for a Mate' community program, run in conjunction with Inspirations Paint, helps families and widows of war veterans supported by Legacy Australia, by giving their home a fresh coat of paint and general tidy up.
Ms Wood has lived in her two-bedroom home for 43 years, and prior to living there, the house was used for the family’s holiday destination.
The 84-year-old is active within the community by volunteering for Legacy for Badge Day, RSL Ladies Auxillary, and assists at Urunga’s Anglican Opportunity Shop.
Her late husband Jack served during WW2 in Papua New Guinea with the army in water transport.
Ms Wood said she has been overwhelmed with the community’s generosity: “I have won the lottery and didn’t even buy a ticket”.
Community members can get involved in the much-needed makeover on Saturday from 11am to 2pm at Ms Wood’s home, 12 Boronia Avenue Mylestom.
Berger 'Paint for a Mate' is a community program that helps Legacy to support Australian families of servicemen that have fallen on tough times. Berger, in collaboration with Inspirations Paint will provide more than 2,400 litres of paint to revive and protect 40 family homes across the country.
