The visit is not only about the sporting rivalry between the two schools; it is an opportunity for both sets of students to experience different cultures. The Quirindi school captains said in their closing speech that all their students had formed new friendships and learnt new things while billeted with Bellingen students. Both sets of students immensely enjoyed the school social which featured Sam Vallens, a former student now working as a DJ at STAR FM. Thanks to the SRC for their hard work in organising the social and farewell barbecue.
In the sporting arena comment must be made about some of the outstanding performances of the Bellingen students. Special mention must got to the dominant boys netball team and to the large number of students who took part in the chess competition under the tutelage of Peter Harrigan. Bellingen were dominant in a majority of the competitions and as a result the Beau Valley Shield was secured by the end of the second day.
Thanks to all staff and members of the community who gave up their time to ensure that all of the events went ahead, as well as, the families that billeted students from Quirindi. The students from both schools were impeccably behaved throughout, giving both communities good reason to be proud of them.
