“The public meeting is being held at the Urunga Golf Club at 6pm on Thursday, 2 July,” Ms Pavey said.
“Department of Primary Industries, Lands, engaged the Soil Conservation Service to project manage the detailed investigations of the site, develop a Remedial Action Plan and manage the works.
“The NSW Government has invested over $4 million in this important project to remediate and rehabilitate this site.
“The works prescribed in the Remedial Action Plan are designed to comply with the EPA management order and to remediate the site so that it’s safe for public access and to minimise any further impact on the adjacent wetland.
“The remediation activities will be conducted on-site in accordance with various site specific management plans which address issues including dust, water quality and traffic management.
“The old antimony processing site is located on Hillside Drive at Urunga on the north coast of NSW.
“The derelict site lies between the Pacific Highway and a state significant wetland which forms part of the Urunga Lagoon and Kalang River systems.
“The project is expected to be completed by early 2016 and is funded through an Environmental Trust allocation of $500,000, $2.1 million from the Derelict Mines Committee and the balance from the Department of Primary Industries.”
