Coaches Anna Guest and Katie Dawes led the 8s girls Dorrigo Lyrebirds and boys Dorrigo Quolls in four matches each against clubs from across Coffs Harbour and Grafton.
Both teams faired well against the city clubs showing some good team work and passing up the field, strong kicks for goal and some great goal keeping in the opposition half.
The Polwarth Drive fields held up well after inclement weather during the week with only a few fields showing signs of mud. Fortunately, or unfortunately (from the kids point of view), the Dorrigo teams didn’t get a game on one of the slippery surfaces.
The day of away competition will do wonder for the skill and confidence of all our juniors. Well done and congratulations to junior boys Luke Moloney, Scott Kedzlie, Jamison Dawes, Oliver Dellow, Marshall Kellett and Nicholas Beaumont and to our junior girls Hayley Pitkin, Teegan Smith, Mikaylah Miller, Kyra Clarke, Leah Ellis, Linsay Guest, Ruby Sheather, Molly Churchill, Charli Sheather and Poppy Dickings.
All the Dorrigo Highlanders Football Club junior teams will be at home this Saturday playing on the Alex Cork Fields from 9am. The morning will kick off with our Miniroos on the main field and will be followed by 9s Dingoes vs Bellingen at 9.30am; 8s boys Quolls vs Sawtell at 10.30am; 11’s Wallabies vs Sawtell at 10.40am; 8’s girls Lyrebirds vs Nambucca at 11.30am.
Both intermediate teams, 14 girls Bluegums and 16 girls Waratahs, play Sawtell with the 16s kicking off at 10.20am and the 14s at 11.40am.
It’s a weekend of away games too for our senior teams with the Women’s Cedars at Upper Orara at 1pm and the Men’s Highlanders at Corindi, also at 1pm.
