According to Captain Anthony Dawes, the appliance is more versatile, better able to carry extra rescue and emergency equipment, all while still having increased room for the crew.
“The crew were trained in the operation of the new pumper and transferred all the equipment from the old truck to the new,” captain Dawes said.
“The new truck will enable us to get to emergencies much quicker, as the old truck was a little slow up hills. The extra gear that we will now be carrying will enhance our ability to assist more effectively at a broader range of incidents.
The Dorrigo Fire Station is having an open Day on Saturday, May 30 and Captain Dawes said it was a good chance for locals to come and see the new truck.
“Also we currently have a vacant position at Dorrigo for an enthusiastic female or male above the age of 18 that is available to respond mainly during daylight hours to emergency incidents,” Captain Dawes said.
“Applicants must be relatively fit as some duties can be physically demanding and must be able to attend such activities as fire station open days, ANZAC Day marches, and other fund raising activities that the Dorrigo fire brigade undertakes”.
Dorrigo Fire and Rescue undertake a number of services including but not limited to all fire fighting operations, rescue incidents which includes car accidents and hazardous material incidents. We also do fire education for the school children and run a smoke alarm battery replacement service for the elderly residents of Dorrigo.
The position carries a monthly retainer where you will be paid for your availability and on top of that you will be paid for all incidents and training that is undertaken
Captain Anthony Dawes said all interested applicants can call the station on 6657-2484 or drop in on the open day.
The public can view the new appliance at the Fire & Rescue open day on Saturday, May 30 between 10am and 2pm.
