Police attempted to stop a Holden Commodore travelling north on the Pacific Highway near Emerald Beach around 1.30pm.
Road spikes were deployed near Solitary Islands Way; these successfully stopped the Holden.
Two teenage girls allegedly ran into property off Solitary Islands Way, before being arrested by police a short time later.
During the operation, a 41-year-old police officer sustained a number of injuries after being struck by a police vehicle. He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
A Critical Incident Team will now investigate all the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the actions of police.
The investigation will be conducted by Richmond Local Area Command.
A 16-year-old girl has been charged with four offences in relation to the incident, specifically:
- Drive motor vehicle while licence suspended;
- Use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road;
- Drive uninsured vehicle; and
- Police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly – (Skye’s Law).
She has been refused bail to appear in a children’s court on Sunday, May 24.
SATURDAY: A police officer is being treated in hospital after being injured during an operation near Coffs Harbour.
Police attempted to stop a car which was travelling north on the Pacific Highway near Emerald Beach about 1.30pm Saturday.
Road spikes were used near Solitary Islands Way, and successfully stopped the car.
The two females who were travelling inside the car ran into property off Solitary Islands Way, before police arrested them a short time later.
They have been taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station and are assisting police with their inquiries.
During the operation, a 41-year-old police officer suffered a number of injuries after being struck by a police vehicle. Conscious and breathing, he has been taken to Coffs Harbour Health Campus for treatment.
An investigation into the matter is now underway, examining the actions of the two females and how the police officer came to be struck by the police vehicle.
