The girls played first and were up against a tough Coffs Harbour High School team. Coffs started strongly and scored a through ball in the first minute of play. Katie Thorn scored the equaliser in the sixth minute but then a good shot by the Coffs right winger put the visitors in front again only a minute later. Good teamwork and passing saw the Bello girls dominate play and Jess Marks leveled at 2-all. Then the tide changed and at half time the score was 4-2 to Coffs.
The second half saw the Bello girls determined to come back, however, Coffs were first to score with a great goal to Tamara Skinner. Then the comeback queens went into full stride, dominating the game and the scoring. They converted six unanswered goals in an amazing display of teamwork and determination. Coffs could do nothing to stop the rampage. Final score, 8-5. The Bellingen High girls will now travel to Wauchope to play the winners of Lower North Coast.
The boys’ team had to take on the strong Orara High School team in their final. This was a tight tussle, which saw only a few real opportunities at each end. The half-time score was locked at nil-all.
The second half started with a great Bello team goal. Speedstar Ezra was put into space down the right and in classic style cut the ball back to Andrew Trist right in front of goal who happily converted. Sustained pressure saw Justin Alford convert the second and there were smiles all round. Orara got one back but the game was sealed with a dot shot by Andrew Trist taking the score to 3-1. Orara scored another goal prior to full time to take the final score to 3-2. The Bello boys will also have to take on the winners of Lower North Coast who are yet to be determined.
