It is an emotive tribute to the Australian Boy Soldier, Jim Martin who somehow made it to Gallipoli though he was only 14 years old.
Jim spent four months in the fighting before dying of typhus at the age of 14 years and nine months.
The project, one of several being undertaken by students at the school, is in response to a challenge issued by Dorrigo Sub Branch of the RSLA.
Under the direction of teacher Lisa Carey, Year Three approached the Jim Martin story from an unusual and poignant perspective.
Their tribute comes in the form of personal view of Jim’s mother’s writing desk, sometime after she learns of his death.
A large copy of Jim’s embarkation photograph, hand drawn by Tia Beaumont is on the wall, “a letter home to Mum” composed by Alyssa Courtice lies on the desk and there are personal items of his mothers and memorabilia scattered about.
The floor, part of the wall and window are carpeted by more than 100 carefully handmade crimson Flanders Poppies.
The display, set up during the week-end at 34 Hickory St. Already has attracted considerable interest.
