The Discovery Apps will be a one stop portal for tourist information and local services. A separate app has been developed for Urunga, Bellingen and Dorrigo. It will be free for users to download to their smart phone or tablet where they can access information on accommodation, attractions, events, eateries, shopping, sports facilities, emergency services and much more.
“This is a great example of private /public partnership, with council working closely with Tee Dee Computers in delivering this great new promotional tool for business and the community,” Mayor Troy said.
The event was attended by a strong contingent of visitor centre volunteers and industry representatives including the president of Urunga Mylestom Chamber of Commerce, Steve Allan who said: “The Discovery Apps will be a tremendous asset to businesses in the Shire and a significant leap forward for the advertising and marketing of tourism”.
One of the key advantages of the Discovery Apps is the incorporation of QR codes at tourist attractions. The first QR code has been installed at Urunga Boardwalk. Visitors can scan the code and then receive a narration on features of the boardwalk. Other QR code posts will soon be installed at the Hungry Head Lookout, Alma Doepel Park in Mylestom, Church St Bellingen and Dangar Falls at Dorrigo.
The app can be downloaded via the Apple iTunes Store or Google Play for android devices. For more information contact council’s manager of economic and business development, Michael Grieve on 6655-7300.
