To gain selection Karlie travelled to Canberra on the February 8 to compete in the Australian Cross Country Trials. Running in the U20 race against some of the best distance runners in the country she came third, covering the six kilometres cross country course in 21 minutes. Athletics Australia picked a team of six from the results and past history of the athletes.
At 17 Karlie is one of the youngest members of the team who are travelling to Guiyang China to race against some of the best runners in the world.
At lot of hard work and training has been needed to get to this point and she will be very proud to put on the green and gold Australian uniform and represent her country. Special thanks also needs to go to the Layne Beachley ‘Aim for The Stars’ organisation who have selected Karlie for one of their scholarships for 2015 out of over 1000 applicants. The grant money will help to cover some of the costs involved in getting her to China and back.
