Lessons are available for infants, pre-schoolers and primary school children and its run by the NSW Sport and Recreation Department.
Called the Swim & Survive program it’s based on the Royal Life Saving Society’s national industry standard program and is taught by qualified instructors.
Sport and Recreation project officer Paul Kelly told the Courier-Sun, “Australians love the water and love swimming and the Swim & Survive program teaches vital water safety and swimming skills.
“Swimming is not only fun and great exercise it is also a potentially life-saving skill
Run by the Office of Sport - Sport and Recreation’s Swim & Survive is an intensive program, with most classes held over eight or nine consecutive days.”
Swim & Survive classes will be held at Bellingen from January 12 – 22.
The cost is $48 for infant and preschool classes or $67 for school age classes (sibling discounts available), plus pool entry fees.
