BASEcamp-a career mentoring program for high school students was launched with great excitement to the community on Wednesday, November 19 at a Bellingen Chamber of Commerce breakfast held at the Bellingen High School.

The breakfast showcased the culinary talents of the school’s Year 12 hospitality students who catered the event and was attended by over 30 business and community members.
BASEcamp is the latest activity of the Bellingen Shire Business and Education Alliance (in 2013 they ran The Big Idea -entrepreneurial learning program) and is a partnership initiative with The Bellingen Chamber of Commerce.
The program is scheduled to start in 2015 and will run four key career mentoring events across the year. BASEcamp aims to give participating students attending Dorrigo and Bellingen High schools opportunities to explore a broad range of careers and pathways to assist them to make informed decisions about their futures. A representative from the Alliance, Cath Cosgrave, Youth Directions Inc. said “The Alliance is delighted by the warm and enthusiastic response received by business and community towards BASEcamp with eleven mentors signing up already at the launch.
