To mark the occasion, council’s deputy mayor Desmae Harrison and general manager Liz Jeremy planted a commemorative tree with Cork Trust Medical Centre representative Bev Stevens, project manager Mark Moxon and previous site landowner Peter van Dyke.
Symbolically, the tree will grow with the medical centre and Seniors Housing Development and stand generations after as a reminder of the importance of community growth and inclusion.
While the start of construction is exciting, the good news continues with the announcement the project has been named as a finalist in the 2014 Regional Development Australia Innovation Awards.
Design company Regional Architects was selected from the largest group of nominees in the award’s history because of the “social and economic benefits of the project, the community involvement leading up to and during the construction phase of the project and the master planning and sustainability of the project, as well as the project’s unique design elements”.
The awards night, a gala event, is at Moree on November 7, with government and business representatives attending.
