A play reading is a wonderful occasion for the audience - they witness the very first outing of a newly completed play. It might not yet be in its finished form, but here it is for all to see. On Sunday November 2nd at 3pm, this could be you - a unique experience.
The play is contemporary, set right here in the Bellinger valley. Is it comedy or drama? Given the playwright’s previous work it’s likely to be a bit of both.
For the author a play reading can be a joyous or desultory experience. Until that occasion the play is just words, organised into a narrative, a story with a beginning, middle and end. Usually the playwright’s intention, their overriding purpose for writing the play is revealed - its effectiveness is given a chance to emerge.
Similarly for the audience: when you attend a play reading you witness a play’s birth. We invite you to attend and participate in this creative process.
After the play reading, apart from refreshments, there will be a chance to provide feedback for the writer, director and actors. Above all, they want to hear whether what they did was clear; not just whether you liked the play, but what did it make you think about? Discussing the play is what helps to make the event so enjoyable, and creative.
