LOCAL business owner Laura Duck has taken out first prize in the North Coast Region’s ‘Young Entrepreneur’ category at the NSW Business Chamber’s award night held in Port Macquarie.
In a coup for Bellingen, another business, Cargo Lane, was also an award winner, and both are set to represent the Mid North Coast at the state finals at the end of November.
For Laura, the accolade is an amazing achievement for the new business owner, having relocated to Bellingen less than two years ago to purchase Alchemy, a natural therapy clinic.
The 28-year-old said it was her first business venture and her aim has always been to “gain the respect of the staff, practitioners, clients and community as someone with professionalism and integrity.”
Laura’s volunteer role as committee member on the Bellingen Chamber of Commerce was also mentioned as was her commitment to the community. However, she’s quick to deflect all attention to the locals who support her.
“I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you,” Laura said. “From the moment I arrived in town I have been overwhelmed with support from the practitioners, clients, community members and fellow business professionals. I would also like to thank the NSW Business Chamber for their recognition of all the hard work not only undertaken by me but the entire team at Alchemy.”
Laura took ownership of Alchemy at the end of December 2012 and forged ahead with creating a new website, improving facilities, increasing the staff and service categories along with extending the existing product lines including a comprehensive Chinese herbal medicine dispensary.
