She is passionate about mental health, having worked for a number of years in psychiatry in both Newcastle and Tamworth. She also has a passion for children’s health, and was awarded the ‘Carl Mason Memorial Prize’ in paediatrics from the University of Newcastle in 2006.
As a mother herself, Carol understands the joys and challenges that come with raising children and teenagers. She is enjoying her time working with the young people of Bellingen in the Youth Hub each fortnight as part of their ‘drop-in’ clinic.
Carol is a member of the Christian Dental and Medical Fellowship of Australia and is committed to the physical, mental and spiritual health and wellbeing of each patient.
Carol is also active freelance musician, having played violin in both amateur and professional productions. She performed with ‘The Veronica’s’ on their Australian tour in 2009, and was a regular member of the Sydney Concert Orchestra under the baton of Tommy Tychoe.
Recently she has been involved in a number of performances in Bellingen with the North Coast Performing Arts Association Orchestra, including as part of last year’s popular Bellingen Music Festival. Additionally, Carol has been active behind the scenes in the music industry, including being a founding member of ‘The Orchestras of Australia Network’, a national organisation which provided amongst other things representation, advocacy, forums, community building and networking for both professional and community based orchestras.
Carol has worked as an Associate Lecturer in the Sydney University Pharmacy Department, and spent a number of years doing medical research at St Vincent’s Hospital in Darlinghurst.
She also worked for a number of years as a HSC marker and has taught flute and violin. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family including their dog, two cats, two horses and a pony.
Dr McCabe is available Monday to Thursday and new patients are welcome.
