Mr Stoner said the NSW Government has approved $190,000 for the Mid North Coast Local Health District to upgrade the diagnostic capabilities of Dorrigo Hospital and that he will continue to support the regional health services.
"I am committed to the people of regional NSW that we will enhance their hospitals and health services,” Mr Stoner said.
“We continue to see progress on this promise. The purchase of the digital x-ray will significantly improve the timeliness of treatment for Dorrigo's patients resulting in better quality care.
“These means patients will no longer be required to take the long trip to and from Coffs Harbour as this machine will be able to be send digital images to specialist doctors in Coffs Harbour for analysis.”
Mid North Coast Local Health District chief executive Stewart Dowrick has welcomed the funding announcement for Dorrigo Health Campus.
"It is great to see so many health projects benefiting from the NSW Government's strong investment in rebuilding health infrastructure,” Mr Dowrick said.
“The mobile digital x-ray machine will enhance community access to radiology services.
“The new unit has the ability for immediate transmission of digital images to Coffs Harbour which will significantly improve the time-frame for diagnosis and treatment.
“Community, staff and patients at Dorrigo Health Campus will welcome this investment in digital technology and equipment,” he said.
Mr Dowrick also said that the capacity to transmit images electronically is expected to be available at Dorrigo by December 2014 and the machine will be purchased at a time to align with the installation of this technological infrastructure.
