This makes Bellingen High the strongest school in Northern NSW, a region that extends from the Queensland border to the south of Taree and includes both public and private schools.
19 years girls team
The 19s girls dominated the competition from the outset being undefeated in their preliminary rounds scoring 18 goals for and two against. In the final against the local Westport High School the game proved a little harder. Captain, Jemara Imrie, started the scoring after some great teamwork. Westport looked like they could get back in to the game, however, the Bello girls kept replying with another goal. The final score 6-3 and Northern NSW champions.
16 years girls team
The 16 years girls also dominated the preliminary rounds going through undefeated scoring 27 goals for and five against. This put them in the semi-final against Westport who they defeated 5-2 but unfortunately, Jeannette Kambere sustained a foot injury which put her out for the final.
The final was against arch-rivals, Wauchope HS. Wauchope were to score first which put the girls in unfamiliar territory. Despite playing well and having many shots the girls only managed to claw a goal back, while Wauchope scored again, making them winners 1-2.
14 years girls team
This young team is definitely developing into a strong unit. Despite playing without captain, Katie Thorn, who was playing in the 16s team, the team showed they have a bright future. Throughout the preliminaries they played a number of 16s teams with the highlight being a win over BDC 16s 4-1.
In the final against Camden Haven HS the girls displayed their dominance winning 4-1. Special mention must be made of two players, Jackie Kambere and Jordan Healy. Jackie scored 10 goals and Jordan nine goals throughout the course of the day. This is an enormous effort for such young girls.
Having said that, it is important to recognise that all three teams play the passing game with excellent teamwork and this is the key to their success.
19s years boy’s team
The 19s boys took a while to find their feet as they lost two of their preliminary games.
They improved throughout the day to win their semi-final and take on BDC in the final. The final was tied at full time, which resulted in a penalty shoot out. Thankfully the Bello boys did the job and are Northern NSW champions.
16 years boy’s team
The highly fancied 16s team went through the preliminary rounds undefeated and looked ready to take the crown. They won their semi and went on to play St Clairs High School in the final. In a game that displayed how close you can get without scoring, the boys went down 1-2 in a close encounter.
Fantastic effort.
