The home team has announced a stellar line-up of star recruits, which cements their place as the firm favourite, despite losing the past three matches to Army Thunder.
Onetime National Rugby League (NRL) icons Danny Buderus, Brett Finch and Michael Crocker have been lured out of retirement to pull on their boots and play for the mighty Maggies.
Buderus debuted for Newcastle Knights in 1997 and is a Dally M Player of the Year recipient. He has played for state and country and internationally with Leeds in a highly successful career.
Finch had an extensive career as both five-eighth and hooker, playing for Canberra Raiders, Sydney Roosters, Parramatta Eels, Melbourne Storm and the Wigan Warriors.
Crocker played for the Sydney Roosters, Melbourne Storm and South Sydney Rabbitohs. He represented Australia and was renowned for his tough style on the field.
All three will give the Bellingen Magpies the advantage and fans should look forward to an exciting afternoon of footy on Saturday, March 1.
The Sgt Matthew Locke MG Charity Match raises funds for the Mates4mates organisation.
Mates4Mates is a not-for-profit charity that provides support to wounded, injured or ill current and ex-serving Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel and their families.
The group aims to “ensure that current and ex-serving men and women are not without the trust, humility and strength of mateship in times of need”.
In addition to the MG Charity Match, the Bellingen Valley Dorrigo Rugby League Football Club and The Grub Club, are holding a three-ball ambrose at Bellingen Golf Club on February 28.
Tee-off is at 8am with breakfast provided and lunch sponsored by Bellingen Shire Council.
Mayor Mark Troy will give a formal welcome to visitors at lunch.
Cost is $90 per team.
On the following Sunday, the Army Band, supported by the Coffs Harbour Regional Brass Band, will hold a concert at C.ex Coffs Harbour.
Doors open at 11am and tickets are $10 each.
