DURING September Bellingen Shire residents aged between 12 and 25 were encouraged to complete a survey to assess council’s current library services and suggest improvements that might be made to better suit their needs.

All those who completed the survey went into the draw to win an Apple iPad.
A total of 205 surveys were received and indicated:
❑ 22 per cent of participants were over 18 years of age;
❑ 62.5 per cent were female;
❑ 66 per cent were studying at school;
❑ 87.7 per cent were already members of the library;
❑ 75.4 per cent borrow books for reading; and
❑ 59.5 per cent borrow books for study.
The respondents provided some positive comments about the library staff, such as: they are very nice and helpful as well as they are always polite and friendly.
One respondent said that they like the library because, it is free, very easy to use the resources, quiet, making for a good environment and welcoming.
Another said they like the library because, it is somewhere to hang out and not get in trouble.
Mayor Mark Troy was pleased to announce the winner of the Apple iPad 2 - Brett Weedon of Dorrigo.
“I congratulate Brett and thank everybody who participated in the survey,” Mayor Troy said. “The information collected will be used to improve library services and the project aligns with the strategic direction identified in the 2030 community vision of being a learning and creative community where our residents are motivated to participate in lifelong learning activities,” Cr Troy added.
