BETTY Gilbert and Janette Banks were the two most excited bowlers in Urunga on Tuesday, September 24, when it was announced that they were the 2013 winners of the prestigious President's Pairs.

The runners-up were Sylvia Mitchell and Bev Mann.
Retiring president, Colleen Duncan, introduced this popular fixture on the bowling calendar when the inaugural winners were Eva Hill and Betty Bowden.
Colleen and her husband Barry donated a trophy to be played for annually and each year they donate medals to the winners who proudly wear them on this day.
Rink winners on the day were C Anthony, J Gale, J Grogan and P Smyly. The raffle was one by Isabel Pettit.
As quite a few bowlers were at the District Veterans' Day last Thursday at North Beach there were no rink winners.
The big news this week is that at the quarterly general meeting it was resolved that in future mufti may be worn on Thursdays for social bowls and men are most welcome to join in on these days. This is a huge step forward from the days of the ‘white leghorns' and 12 inch hemlines from the ground.
It is hoped that this relaxation of dress requirements will encourage more women to take up the sport.
