Urunga lady bowlers support local SES

23 Jun, 2009 09:32 AM
For the last couple of years the Urunga Women's Bowling Club have adopted as their charity their local SES unit and, at the club's annual meeting held onTuesday, June 16, President Dot Boatfield took great pleasure in presenting a cheque for $1000 to Peter Butt, Senior Rescue and Training Officer (pictured). This year the donation to the local unit was particularly relevant in the light of the disastrous floods and storms which inundated not only the bowling club premises on March 31 but the homes of many of the club's members who are still awaiting a return to their homes when repairs have been completed. Given the wonderful efforts of the SES not surprisingly the meeting decided to continue its support for the coming year.

In accepting the donation on behalf of his unit Peter expressed appreciation of the continuing generosity of Urunga Women's Bowling Club and said it would help considerably towards equipping a new flood rescue boat which the unit had recently purchased from a local supplier. He also spoke of the recent storm and flood events which had affected the area, wishing that they had had the flood rescue boat at that time but was proud that his unit had been able to render assistance to so many distressed people and that there had been no loss of life.
