MNC wins the Interdistrict Trophy

03 Nov, 2009 08:35 AM
Urunga Women's Bowling Club is very proud of the part its team of Dorothy Boatfield, Catherine White, Elaine Hetherington and Helen Fisher played in helping the Mid North Coast win the Interdistrict Trophy which was played at Ballina over two days at the beginning of October. The girls are pictured displaying the prestigious trophy.

Unfortunately the heavens opened up again so no bowls were played last Tuesday but Thursday, October 29 saw a good roll up with the clubhouse winners being M Seaborne, J Browne, J Ellem and H Fisher. Charity raffle: G Christian, L Keft.

The highlight of the day was an elusive 8-pin with congratulations going to the team of N Brown, J Jones (visitor from Queensland), W Hodges and B Blake.

Urunga ladies are reminded of the recruitment day for new bowlers next Saturday afternoon from 1.30pm to 4pm and their assistance with prospective bowlers would be appreciated. Please let Dot Boatfield or Wendy Morrin know if you can help. Be sure to bring along any friends and neighbours who might be tempted to take up the game. This is going to be a relaxed and fun afternoon.

Nominations close on the morning of play for the O'Callaghan Cup next Tuesday, November 10 when a blind draw will be made for teams. The game will take the form of revolving triples.

A reminder to all those who have put their names down for Pennants that practice in their Pennant positions will continue every Thursday until break up in December.

Congratulations to Beryl Titmuss on attaining her coaching accreditation last Tuesday at Grafton. Beryl has a background of elite sportsmanship and she will be a great asset to our Club in her new role. If you feel you would like some assistance with your game Beryl will be only too pleased to offer assistance.

There will be a committee meeting after bowls tomorrow.
