Come and try lawn bowlers

05 Jan, 2010 07:32 AM
Urunga Bowling Club is looking to boost its numbers and next Saturday the Club will be holding a free fun afternoon from 1.30pm to 4pm to give any persons interested in having a go at lawn bowls an opportunity to come along and try their hand. A similar afternoon had been arranged last November but was washed out so the club is hoping for fine weather this time around and a good response from the public.

A relaxed afternoon is planned with absolutely no pressure and a free sausage sizzle to wind up proceedings. Bowls will be provided, accredited coaches will be on hand to help and the only requirement is flat soled shoes or you can even go barefoot.

No longer is the game of bowls regarded as the preserve of seniors as nowadays many of the top players in the world come from the younger generations with dress being greatly relaxed and is, in fact, quite colourful for both men and women.

The game is an ideal sport for mums who have kids at school with social games each Tuesday and Thursday from 9.30am to 1pm, the men play on Wednesday and Friday afternoons, mixed bowls are played at weekends and twilight bowls during daylight saving caters for those in the work force. And most importantly, it is a relatively inexpensive sport.

So that the club can get an idea of numbers, especially for catering purposes, persons who plan to come along are asked to contact either Dorothy Boatfield ph. 66556789, Wendy Morrin ph. 66555560 or Warwick Fawbert ph. 66553842. Even if you can't make it next Saturday but are interested in having a go you are most welcome to contact either Dorothy, Wendy or Warwick.
