Karlie Swanson, a student at Urunga Public School, has just returned from the State Hockey Championships in Canberra, representing the North Coast Region. Despite the sleet and ice on the turf, Karlie played seven matches over three days.
With three wins, a draw and two losses, she qualified for the finals.
This was a play off against the Hunter Region for 5th and 6th position.
A beautiful pass to Karlie on the post saw the goalie taken out and the ball in the nets. Great goal Karlie! Two goals were then scored by Hunter and trouble loomed. In the nail biting last minute, as her coach was about to have a heart attack, her team scored to equalise. The whistle blew and they had tied for 5th place.
Karlie had a fantastic time, played great hockey and enjoyed the sites of Canberra. Well done Karlie!
