After weeks of floods and rain it looked unlikely that the Bellinger River Pony Club 2009 Annual Camp would not go ahead. But with so many keen young riders it would have taken another month of rain to dampen their spirits. So after a night of lashing rain the decision to go ahead was met with sheer glee!
Luckily the rain stopped and the sun shone for the five glorious days of camp which was attended by 44 riders. We also had lovely visitors from Port Macquarie, Hastings and Armidale Pony Clubs.
The Pony Club members where inspired, motivated and their riding abilities were vastly improved by the end of Camp.
Our youngest rider was Chad Anderson at 3 years to Rachel Dillon 21 years! All ages and abilities were catered for with some of the finest instructors in the state, who freely volunteered their time and knowledge.
Instruction for Hacking came from Linda Rider of Horsing Around and Tahani Vicario, Dressage from Sue Burke, Jill McKeown and Helen Campbell, Jumping instruction was from Ronnie Porter and Pauline McClement, Horse Racing was introduced to Camp participants by Malcolm Fitzgerald “Training Support Officer of NSW Racing”. A musical ride was inspired by Chris Wood and Western riding was imparted by Evelyn Towill, Rachel of Fairytale Carriages came and showed us the true meaning of one horse power. Mounted Police Troop drill was discussed and practised under the supervision of our very inspiring local police officer Julie Munro.
Sponsorship was also gratefully received from Tursa.
A truly great time was had by all, with the camp culminating with a great gymkhana on the last day.
Ribbons were won, smiles were huge and new friends had been made.
