Bellingen v Jetty High

Last week saw our senior boys cricket side defeat Coffs Jetty by 156 runs in the first round of the Davidson Shield.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first co-captains Luke Hickey and Julian Hulbert set about plotting the downfall of the opposition however we were off to a shaky start with Luke losing his wicket cheaply followed by Adam Marks 14 and Jake Parker 4. Up the other end Sam Harrison was our rock throughout the morning session however the fireworks were about to start. Out swaggered Julian Hulbert who began a one man demolition job on the hapless Harbour bowlers belting 160 runs off only 24 overs at the crease. Sam finished with 40 runs whilst Louis Balenzano supported with 20. These efforts took us to the grand total of 358 off 40 overs which basically left no other result for us but a win.

To the Jetty side’s credit however they started the run chase resolutely, if not a little cautiously, to be 3 for 84 at drinks. They then continued a defensive middle session to be 9 for 193 after their allotted 40 overs.

One obvious area to improve is our bowling attack where we need to increase more pressure on each individual batsmen if we are to progress any further in this state wide knockout.

Fielding points were shared between Luke James and Luke Hickey with both Adam Harber and Jake Parker offering their services in remedial fielding class for the juniors each lunch time next week.

All in all it was a very rewarding win. Our next game will be against the winner of the two Grafton schools hopefully at home.
