The man polls predict will be the next NSW Premier made a flying visit to Urunga last Wednesday (Oct 14) where he was given an insight into the damage caused by the March 31 flood.
Opposition leader Barry O'Farrell was told there was a report commissioned by Bellingen Council in 1999 to address flooding issues in the Urunga CBD.
He was brought up-to-date in the flooding problems by David Boatfield, the chairman of a committee formed after a public rally on the issue in July.
Barry O’Farrell was visiting the Coffs Harbour electorate at the invitation of the Nationals Andrew Fraser to meet with the business community and residents in Urunga, Coffs Harbour and Woolgoolga.
He said fixing the Pacific Highway was a Coalition priority, with many of his MPs well aware of the state of the road because it serviced their electorates.
Speaking just days after the highway claimed another life at Valla, Mr O'Farrell said it was 'obscene' the highway upgrade was still not complete.
“The State Government is spending $5 billion on a metro rail system in Sydney when people are still being killed on the Pacific Highway,” he said.
He also addressed a business luncheon at the Coffs Harbour Racing Club where he committed the coalition to restoring prosperity to NSW.
“I'm up here talking to small businesses about what can be done to support them and they've been talking to me about issues of concern such as tax rates and health services,” Mr O'Farrell said.
He said local communities should have a greater say in the delivery of health services in the region and that could be achieved through district health boards comprised of health professionals and community representatives.
