David Tempest of Bellingen, Applied Fashion Design & Technology student at North Coast TAFE’s Coffs Harbour Campus was among the finalists in the recent Flair Fashion Awards, entering his own design and creation in the bridal category.
David, who has been studying Fashion design for the past two years, is now preparing to launch his own Fashion Label, Trident Designs.
The Flair Awards, held in Taree on 29th August are Australia’s leading fashion awards event outside of the capital cities of Australia, last year attracting 700 entries over the major and minor categories. Entries were from most states of Australia with NSW having the highest representation in all categories.
“We encourage all of our students to enter local & national competitions, allowing them to gain exposure to new ideas and techniques in developing their creativity and confidence” said Fashion Design teacher, Fiona Power. “So far their record of successes has been impressive” she added
“Whilst David is undertaking the full-time Certificate IV course, there are part time options available at Certificate II and III levels, or individual units if you want to learn specific skills”. Said head teacher of Fashion Design, Ms Trish Field.
Ms Field also added that “Career opportunities in the fashion industry are strong, for couture designers and niche markets in apparel design and construction”.
