Carbon in soil and trees seminar

04 May, 2010 08:37 AM
Carbon is the buzzword these days. The major political parties have each proposed schemes to reduce carbon emissions and a common theme is incentives to sequester carbon in soil and trees. A number of private companies are already urging landowners to sign up.

Greg Reid, an extension officer with the Dept of Industry and Investment NSW said: “There are potential benefits for landowners, particularly on the North Coast but sorting fact from marketing is not always easy”.

The Department of Industry and Investment is offering free seminars on Tuesday, May 11 at Thora (2pm-4pm) and Coramba (7pm-9pm).

“The aim is to inform landowners about the background, the potential and the pitfalls.” Greg Reid said. “There are preparations that can be made to maximise access to possible income streams without committing to anything specific at this stage.”

Those interested in attending are asked to register by calling Greg on 6672 2770. Graziers are particularly encouraged to attend.
