Bellingen Art Prize Winners

06 Oct, 2009 01:16 PM
And the Winner is … Nigel Killalea.

The announcement of the $5000 Grand Prize Winner at the Gala Opening of the Bellingen Art Prize at the Memorial Hall on Friday evening was greeted with cheers and applause.

Local artist Nigel Killalea’s work, “Promised Land” was a popular choice although the judges had a difficult task deciding on the winners in all categories as the standard was so high.

This was reflected in the decision to award some “highly commended” certificates to several artists whose work definitely deserved recognition.

The evening itself was a glamorous occasion.

Several hundred people attended and experienced the excitement of hearing the winners announced whilst enjoying drinks and delicious snacks.

This event has become one of the major art and social events in Bellingen’s calendar.

Kari Weiner and Karin Braidwood added to the enjoyment of the evening with their beautiful music.

The judges, Nick Vickers, Charmaine McNamara and Polly Joannou were extremely impressed by the overall standard of entries and the presentation of the evening.

The People’s Choice Prize and the winner of the raffle will be announced on Saturday, October 10 when the exhibition closes. There is still time to make a choice and buy a raffle ticket.

The event is run by the Bellingen Community Arts Council and could not happen without its army of wonderful volunteers and sponsors to whom we say a huge thank you.

Exhibition hours 10 am – 4pm at the Memorial Hall.
